Algonquin College information Technology Services engaged Attain as strategic technology consultants to support the functional programming, estimates, concept design, compliance consulting and visioning for the holistic technology infrastructure of the new space.

The Challenge

Ensure that the existing telecommunications services including the main carrier connection was secured and documented during demolition and construction. How to move the existing Library, classrooms, and support services from the existing building to temporary spaces throughout the college. Provide technology infrastructure that blended with the open ceiling concepts on all four floors.

Attain’s Solution

Team surveyed and documented existing telecommunication infrastructure and worked with PCL Constructors to ensure no disruption of carrier’s services on the campus.
Working with Colliers Project Leaders, Algonquin ITS, Attain provided concepts and details to relocate the hundreds of staff and departments to new temporary spaces during construction.
Attain IT, AV and Security infrastructure design provided standards-based telecommunications infrastructure, including distributed UPS power and with lined basket trays that blended into the ceiling landscape. The final result was Cat6a cabling system, wireless networks (including underfloor wireless access points), cameras/access control/intrusion detection security, audiovisual networks, emergency broadcast systems.
Attain has provided similar technology consulting and design efforts for four other major building projects for Algonquin College:
The Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE) building
The Robert C. Gillett Student Commons building
The Algonquin College Pembroke Campus
The recently completed with Algonquin Students’ Association Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) building.

Outcome

A best-in-class facility that meets the functional needs of students today and in the future that simultaneously plays tribute to design and indigenous heritage through its unique design.
